Academic & Professional Criteria
Standard Entry: A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (minimum UK 2:2 equivalent) and a qualification leading to professional nurse registration.
Alternative Entry: A Diploma in Nursing combined with evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) demonstrating the capacity for Master's-level study.
Non-Standard Entry: Applicants who do not meet the criteria above may be considered on an individual basis. The Course Director will evaluate academic credentials and professional experience for suitability.

This module encourages students to critically examine the changing role of nurses within complex healthcare environments. Students learn to evaluate evidence and consider how healthcare policies and interventions affect nursing practice and patient care. For Caribbean professionals, the module provides an opportunity to critically examine the realities of nursing within developing and changing healthcare systems and to consider how nurses can contribute to policy and service improvement.
This module develops the research and analytical capabilities required for modern professional nursing. Students examine different research methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative approaches, and learn how to evaluate the quality, reliability and relevance of research evidence. The module focuses on applying evidence to clinical decision-making, improving care quality and patient outcomes, and understanding research ethics such as consent and confidentiality. Students also develop a research proposal, making this module particularly valuable for Caribbean nurses interested in clinical research, nursing education, evidence-based practice, healthcare policy or academic careers.
This module focuses on developing nurses as strategic leaders and change agents within health and social care. Students explore leadership theories, project management, systems thinking and organisational change while learning how to address complex healthcare challenges using evidence and data. A major practical component involves developing a service improvement plan and strategic change proposal. Importantly, the module meets the criteria for the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice, subject to the stated CMI accreditation, registration and moderation requirements. The dissertation is the largest component of the programme and allows students to undertake an independent, in-depth research project related to nursing practice.
