The MSc Leadership in Healthcare, delivered online by Diploma MSc and validated by the University of South Wales (USW), is a two-year, part-time master's programme designed for healthcare professionals who want to progress from clinical or professional roles into management, leadership and healthcare improvement positions. Entry Requirements
Since our courses are conducted entirely online, they are accessible to both UK and international registered healthcare professionals.
Applicants will typically hold a first degree or equivalent (including international qualifications) in a relevant professional healthcare field, such as a medical or nursing degree.
Registered healthcare professionals without these recognised qualifications will be considered on an individual basis and a wide range of prior experience may be taken into account. In some cases, applicants may be asked to submit a piece of work for assessment in order to confirm that they are able to work comfortably at postgraduate level, and demonstrate the requisite clinical and professional knowledge.

English Language Requirements Proficiency in the English language is also essential to completing our courses. If English is NOT your first language, we ask for proof of competency during the application process. We are able to accept an IELTS overall score of 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 for each band) or an equivalent qualification.

This foundational module examines what leadership means within complex healthcare organisations and distinguishes leadership from management. Students explore leadership theories including authentic, charismatic, collective and relational approaches, while examining power, followership, organisational relationships and ethics. For Caribbean healthcare professionals, the module provides a framework for understanding how leadership behaviours influence staff engagement, organisational culture, clinical performance and patient outcomes across public and private healthcare settings.
Healthcare delivery depends on multidisciplinary collaboration, making effective team development a core leadership capability. This module examines team dynamics, motivation, organisational culture, trust, common purpose and collaborative working. Caribbean professionals can apply these concepts to multidisciplinary teams involving physicians, nurses, pharmacists, allied health professionals, administrators and community-health personnel, with an emphasis on creating high-performing teams in resource-constrained and complex environments.
This module focuses on clinical governance, quality improvement, patient safety and the corporate dimensions of healthcare leadership. Students develop an understanding of how governance systems can support safer, higher-quality care while addressing legal and organisational considerations. This module develops advanced understanding of strategy and innovation within healthcare organisations. Healthcare leaders must be able to implement change while managing resistance, organisational culture and stakeholder responses. This module distinguishes change leadership from change management and examines change models and approaches for leading sustainable transformation. The first MSc module in Year 2 develops research and evidence-appraisal capabilities.
