Leadership for Sustainability is a 13-week, part-time online professional course designed for professionals who want to understand how effective leadership can drive sustainable organisational growth, responsible business practices and long-term value creation. Students explore the relationship between leadership and sustainability, including sustainability management frameworks, sustainable leadership models, change management, ethics, stakeholder engagement and sustainable business models. The 100% online, part-time format allows professionals in Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, Grenada, St Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Dominica, Antigua & Barbuda, The Bahamas and other English-speaking Caribbean markets to study around existing employment and family commitments. The programme also has practical relevance to Caribbean priorities such as climate resilience, sustainable tourism, energy transition, responsible infrastructure development, ESG, community development and organisational resilience. Students have 24/7 access to learning materials, an eLibrary, discussion forums and tutor support, with classes capped at 20 students.
On successful completion, students receive 20 academic credits at postgraduate level, together with a digital certificate and transcript from the University of Essex. The course is also accredited by The CPD Certification Service, allowing the learning to be formally recorded as CPD; Essex states that this CPD accreditation is recognised in more than 100 countries. The University of Essex is an OfS-registered English higher education provider with degree-awarding powers, while University of Essex Online states that its online professional courses are CPD-accredited. Successful students can also use the 20 credits toward progression to relevant University of Essex Online postgraduate study, subject to the requirements of the chosen qualification.
