Entry Requirements
Since our courses are conducted entirely online, they are accessible to both UK and international registered healthcare professionals.
Applicants will typically hold a first degree or equivalent (including international qualifications) in a relevant professional healthcare field, such as a medical or nursing degree.
Registered healthcare professionals without these recognised qualifications will be considered on an individual basis and a wide range of prior experience may be taken into account. In some cases, applicants may be asked to submit a piece of work for assessment in order to confirm that they are able to work comfortably at postgraduate level, and demonstrate the requisite clinical and professional knowledge.

English Language Requirements Proficiency in the English language is also essential to completing our courses. If English is NOT your first language, we ask for proof of competency during the application process. We are able to accept an IELTS overall score of 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 for each band) or an equivalent qualification.

This foundational module introduces students to the scientific principles underpinning modern genomic medicine. Students examine molecular and cellular genetics, DNA and RNA epigenetic modifications, genetic inheritance, next-generation sequencing (NGS), PCR-based diagnostics and multiomics approaches to communicable and noncommunicable diseases. A major strength is the emphasis on translating genomic information into clinically actionable knowledge, helping healthcare professionals understand how genomic science can move from the laboratory into patient care.
Genomic medicine creates important legal, ethical, cultural, political and social questions. This module examines those wider dimensions, including legal frameworks, bioethics, public policy, cultural considerations, the economics of genomic medicine and professional/public engagement. It is highly relevant to Caribbean healthcare systems because the responsible introduction of genomic technologies requires consideration of affordability, equity, privacy, consent, public education and culturally appropriate healthcare delivery.
This module develops an understanding of how genetic and genomic information can be communicated and applied in clinical settings. Students explore family and medical histories, genotype–phenotype relationships, genomic risk assessment, service delivery, consent, confidentiality, information sharing and ethical considerations. For Caribbean healthcare professionals, this is particularly important because genomic testing increasingly requires professionals who can communicate complex genetic information responsibly and sensitively to patients and families.
This advanced clinical module focuses on applying genomic and multiomic knowledge to healthcare practice. Students explore multiethnic epidemiology, preventive healthcare, personalised and precision medicine, pharmacogenomics, preventive genomics, personalised oncology, multidisciplinary genomic medicine teams and clinical audit. The module is particularly valuable for healthcare professionals who want to understand how genomic information can influence both individualised patient care and broader population-health strategies.
This module applies genomic science to reproductive and maternal healthcare. Areas include reproductive genetics, infertility, prenatal screening, genomic risk assessment, molecular diagnostics, genomic counselling and personalised prenatal care. It also considers legal, cultural, social and ethical issues in fetal medicine. For Caribbean healthcare professionals working in obstetrics, gynaecology, midwifery, fertility or maternal health, this provides an opportunity to develop specialised knowledge in an increasingly important area of personalised healthcare.
This module focuses directly on the transformation of genomic discoveries into personalised healthcare. It is one of the programme's most strategically important modules because it connects genomic science with the practical goal of delivering more targeted, effective and individualised healthcare.
The research module prepares students to independently evaluate scientific evidence and undertake research relevant to genomic healthcare. Students develop skills in quantitative and qualitative research, statistics, systematic reviews, meta-analysis, evidence appraisal, audit, quality improvement, health economics and research-proposal development. These skills are valuable for Caribbean professionals who want to contribute to healthcare research, clinical improvement initiatives, policy development or the introduction of evidence-based genomic services.
The final professional project gives students the opportunity to apply their knowledge to a substantial genomic medicine or healthcare research and development project.
