Since our courses are conducted entirely online, they are accessible to both UK and international registered healthcare professionals.
Applicants will typically hold a first degree or equivalent (including international qualifications) in a relevant professional healthcare field, such as a medical or nursing degree.
Registered healthcare professionals without these recognised qualifications will be considered on an individual basis and a wide range of prior experience may be taken into account. In some cases, applicants may be asked to submit a piece of work for assessment in order to confirm that they are able to work comfortably at postgraduate level, and demonstrate the requisite clinical and professional knowledge.

This module develops advanced knowledge of the anatomy, physiology and pathology of the oesophagus. Students examine diagnostic approaches and conditions including Barrett's oesophagus, vomiting, oesophageal dysmotility and oesophageal cancer. The module is particularly valuable for clinicians who routinely encounter upper gastrointestinal symptoms in primary care or hospital settings because it develops the ability to critically evaluate diagnostic and treatment approaches rather than simply memorising disease profiles.
The Stomach module focuses on the structure and function of the stomach and the diagnosis and management of major gastric conditions. Topics include gastroscopy, peptic ulcer disease, Helicobacter pylori, gastric cancer and pernicious anaemia. For Caribbean clinicians, this provides a strong foundation for managing common upper-GI presentations and recognising conditions requiring further investigation or specialist referral.
This module examines pancreatic anatomy, physiology and disease, including pancreatic function testing, pancreatic insufficiency, acute and chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cysts, pancreatic cancer and neuroendocrine tumours. It develops the clinician's ability to interpret pancreatic disorders and critically evaluate contemporary diagnostic and treatment approaches, making it relevant to hospital and specialist practice.
The Liver module provides comprehensive coverage of liver anatomy and physiology, liver-function testing, cirrhosis and its complications, liver cancer, drug- and alcohol-induced liver injury, viral liver disease and biliary disease. This is particularly relevant to Caribbean healthcare because liver disease represents an important component of both primary and secondary healthcare, requiring clinicians to recognise disease patterns, interpret investigations and understand appropriate management pathways.
This module combines small-bowel disease with the principles of clinical nutrition. Students study coeliac disease, Crohn's disease, PEG feeding, bile-salt malabsorption and the anatomy and physiology of the small bowel, while also examining how nutrition affects gastrointestinal disease. This interdisciplinary focus is valuable for Caribbean healthcare teams because nutrition, chronic disease management and gastrointestinal health frequently intersect in clinical practice.
The Colon module addresses major lower-GI conditions including irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, infectious diarrhoea, Clostridioides difficile, colorectal cancer and stoma management. It also covers colonoscopy, screening and diagnosis. The module provides clinicians with knowledge that can support earlier recognition of colorectal disease, appropriate investigation and evidence-based management and referral.
The first component of Year 2 develops the research skills necessary for evidence-based gastroenterology practice. Students study epidemiological concepts, statistical interpretation, risk measures, meta-analysis, statistical tests, qualitative research, evidence-based practice, health economics, audit and quality improvement. The Professional Project provides the opportunity to investigate a clinically relevant issue connected to the student's own professional practice.
