In some cases, applicants may be asked to submit a piece of work for assessment in order to confirm that they are able to work comfortably at postgraduate level, and demonstrate the requisite clinical and professional knowledge.

This foundational module introduces the principles of health economics and examines how economic evidence supports healthcare decision-making and Health Technology Assessment (HTA). Students explore the relationship between economics, evidence-based medicine, clinical practice and healthcare budgets, while learning to critically evaluate how health-economic assessments are used to determine whether interventions and technologies represent appropriate uses of scarce resources. Year 2 begins with a research-focused module designed to prepare students for independent investigation. Students develop skills in quantitative and qualitative research, statistical interpretation, systematic reviews, meta-analysis, evidence synthesis, audit, governance, quality improvement, research proposals, ethics and literature review. The Professional Project is the programme's major applied research component. Students formulate a research question and undertake an independent project related to their professional practice.
