Programme Overview

The Swiss School of Business and Management Geneva (SSBM Geneva) Executive Doctor of Business Administration (Executive DBA) is a 24-month, fully online doctoral-level programme delivered in English, designed specifically for experienced professionals who want to move their careers toward senior executive and C-suite leadership. The programme brings together strategic leadership, innovation and transformation, and executive decision-making, while combining advanced business theory with applied research focused on real-world organizational challenges. For Caribbean professionals, this provides an opportunity to earn a Swiss business doctorate without leaving the Caribbean or interrupting an established career. SSBM states that its DBA programmes are ACBSP accredited, with ACBSP recognized by the U.S. Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), while SSBM is also EduQua certified and accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC) as an independent higher education institution.

The Executive DBA is particularly relevant to Caribbean professionals because it allows executives, entrepreneurs, senior managers and experienced business leaders to develop advanced capabilities while continuing to work. Its online, self-paced format means that professionals in Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Guyana, The Bahamas, the OECS and other Caribbean markets can pursue doctoral-level education without relocating or taking an extended career break. The curriculum's emphasis on AI, digital transformation, organizational culture, sustainability, innovation, financial management, business intelligence and data-driven decision-making is especially valuable as Caribbean organizations respond to digitalization, economic transformation, regional integration and increasingly competitive global markets. Students can also build an international professional network through SSBM Connect and interact with faculty, industry professionals and fellow students from around the world.

Programme Highlights

This module establishes the foundation for doctoral-level research. Students develop an understanding of how rigorous business research is designed, including the relationship between research questions, theoretical frameworks, evidence and methodology. For Caribbean executives, this is particularly valuable because it develops the ability to investigate organizational and economic challenges systematically rather than relying solely on experience or intuition.

Building on the first research module, Research Methodology II advances students' ability to conduct sophisticated research in business and management. Students develop stronger capabilities in evaluating evidence and selecting appropriate approaches for complex organizational questions, preparing them for the applied research required during their DBA journey.

The Research Proposal module provides the bridge between doctoral learning and the student's own research project. Students develop a structured proposal identifying a significant business or management problem, establishing research objectives and determining an appropriate methodology. This applied approach allows Caribbean executives to investigate issues directly relevant to their organizations, industries or national economies.

The Sustainability elective examines how organizations can create long-term economic, social and environmental value. For Caribbean professionals, this is particularly relevant to sectors such as tourism, financial services, construction, agriculture, energy and public administration, where sustainable development and resilience increasingly influence strategic decisions.

This module addresses the growing strategic importance of artificial intelligence in business. Students explore how managers can understand and leverage AI while considering its implications for people, processes, decision-making and organizational competitiveness. For Caribbean businesses undergoing digital transformation, this provides a foundation for using AI strategically rather than treating it simply as a technology issue.

Strategic Corporate Culture focuses on the relationship between organizational culture, leadership and business performance. Students examine how leaders can shape cultures that support innovation, accountability, employee engagement and organizational objectives. This is especially relevant for Caribbean organizations seeking to modernize their management practices while maintaining strong organizational identity.

Digital Business Acceleration focuses on how technology can be used to transform business models, processes and customer experiences. Caribbean organizations increasingly operate in markets where digital platforms, e-commerce, fintech and online services are reshaping competition, making this an important area for executives responsible for organizational growth.

This module addresses the strategic use of business intelligence alongside corporate security considerations. Executives develop an appreciation for how information, analytics, risk and security can influence organizational decision-making. It is particularly applicable to Caribbean organizations operating in sectors where data protection, financial risk, cybersecurity and intelligence are increasingly important.

Innovation and Change Management develops the leadership capabilities required to introduce new ideas, technologies, processes and business models successfully. Students examine how organizations can overcome resistance to change and translate innovation into measurable organizational results—highly relevant to Caribbean economies seeking to diversify and become more competitive.

This module develops the ability to turn complex data into clear, compelling business insights. Executives learn how to communicate evidence effectively so that boards, management teams and other stakeholders can make informed decisions. This is particularly valuable in Caribbean organizations where leaders increasingly need to use data to support investment, performance management and strategic planning.

Business IT examines the strategic relationship between information technology and organizational performance. Students gain a stronger understanding of how technology can support operations, communication, productivity and competitive advantage, helping executives make better technology-related decisions without needing to become IT specialists.

The thesis is the culminating component of the Executive DBA and gives students the opportunity to undertake substantial applied research addressing a significant business or organizational issue. For Caribbean professionals, this can provide an opportunity to examine a real challenge facing a company, industry, public institution or regional market and develop evidence-based recommendations that can contribute to organizational or economic development. SSBM describes the Executive DBA as a practical, research-based doctorate intended to help professionals make significant contributions to both theory and practice.
