The Data Science and Computational Intelligence MSc from Coventry University Online is a 100% online, part-time postgraduate programme designed for professionals and graduates who want advanced skills in data science, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and computational intelligence. The programme combines statistical modelling, machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, generative AI, reinforcement learning, big-data management, cloud computing and data engineering. For Caribbean students, the online structure is particularly attractive because it allows professionals to pursue a UK master's degree without relocating, making it suitable for people working in banking, insurance, telecommunications, government, healthcare, tourism, logistics, education and other sectors increasingly dependent on data-driven decision-making. The programme also places significant emphasis on responsible AI, data governance, data protection, ethics and leadership, and successful completion of The Data Science Professional module can make students eligible for the CMI Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice at no additional cost, subject to the stated criteria.
The MSc is particularly suitable for graduates with backgrounds in computer science, mathematics, statistics, engineering or related disciplines, as well as professionals already working with technology, data or analytics who want to advance their careers or transition into AI and data science. Applicants normally need an honours degree at 2:2 or above, or an international equivalent, in a relevant discipline. The English-language requirement is IELTS 6.5 overall, with at least 5.5 in each component, although approved alternatives and a pre-sessional English route may be available. The published course fee is £10,000 for the full 180-credit MSc; divided across the normal two-year part-time duration, this is approximately £416.67 per month equivalent. However, Coventry states that it offers regionalised pricing and discounts, so Caribbean applicants should confirm their actual country-specific tuition fee with the university. The online programme has six intakes per year: January, March, May, July, September and November.

Programme Highlights
This module establishes the mathematical and analytical foundation for modern data science. Students explore probability, statistics, statistical modelling, estimation, inference and stochastic processes before progressing into supervised and unsupervised machine learning. Importantly, the module moves beyond simply learning algorithms by examining model evaluation, validation, bias, fairness, interpretability, overfitting, underfitting and scalability. Students work with real-world datasets and develop the ability to select, evaluate and optimise models. For Caribbean professionals, these skills can be applied to areas such as customer analytics, credit risk, tourism forecasting, healthcare analytics, fraud detection and government data analysis.
This module focuses on artificial neural networks, deep-learning architectures and image processing, with particular emphasis on computer vision. Students gain practical experience developing and applying deep-learning models to real-world computer-vision problems. The subject is increasingly important for applications such as automated inspection, facial and image recognition, medical imaging, security, agriculture, transportation and intelligent systems. For Caribbean markets, the knowledge can potentially support emerging applications in areas such as tourism, agriculture, public safety, healthcare and infrastructure monitoring.
This module combines technical data management with professional, ethical and leadership capabilities. Students examine big-data management, data engineering, SQL and NoSQL databases, cloud computing, distributed computing, data protection, data governance and data ethics. The module is particularly valuable for professionals who expect to work with sensitive organisational or customer information because it addresses responsible handling and governance of data. It also incorporates the criteria for the CMI Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice, which eligible students can gain as an additional qualification at no additional cost after successfully completing the module.
This is one of the programme's most future-oriented modules, examining generative artificial intelligence and reinforcement learning. Students explore the underlying concepts, algorithms, capabilities and limitations of these technologies while gaining practical experience implementing and experimenting with AI systems. Applications include natural language processing, autonomous systems and other emerging AI technologies. For Caribbean organisations, this knowledge could be relevant to AI-powered customer service, content generation, business automation, intelligent decision support and digital transformation.
The Individual Research Project is the largest component of the MSc and gives students an opportunity to investigate a significant data science or computational-intelligence problem independently. Students develop research skills involving research methodology, data collection, analysis, interpretation and academic writing, culminating in a dissertation. This provides an opportunity for Caribbean students to investigate issues relevant to their own country or organisation, for example, tourism forecasting, financial fraud, healthcare analytics, climate-related data, agricultural productivity, customer behaviour or public-sector performance—while demonstrating their ability to apply advanced data science methods to a substantial real-world problem.
