Applicants will typically hold a first degree or equivalent (including international qualifications) in a relevant professional healthcare field, such as a medical or nursing degree.
Registered healthcare professionals without these recognised qualifications will be considered on an individual basis and a wide range of prior experience may be taken into account. In some cases, applicants may be asked to submit a piece of work for assessment in order to confirm that they are able to work comfortably at postgraduate level, and demonstrate the requisite clinical and professional knowledge.

This module develops the ability to recognise, investigate and manage patients presenting with acute neurological problems. Students explore important presentations including acute headaches and migraine, central nervous system infections such as meningitis, acute weakness and paralysis, encephalopathy, neurological complications associated with cancer, confusion and delirium. For Caribbean healthcare professionals, this provides particularly relevant knowledge for emergency departments, hospitals and acute-care settings where rapid recognition and appropriate management of neurological symptoms can be critical.
The Epilepsy module focuses on the diagnosis, investigation and management of epilepsy and conditions that can mimic seizures. Students develop knowledge of seizure semiology, acute management, classification and the long-term management of epilepsy. The module is valuable for professionals who encounter patients with recurrent seizures in emergency, hospital, primary-care and community settings, while also strengthening their ability to apply evidence-based approaches to complex neurological presentations.
This module provides in-depth knowledge of transient ischaemic attacks (TIAs), stroke presentation, investigation, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation. Students also examine stroke mimics and the role of multidisciplinary teams in patient management. Stroke is an important area of clinical practice across the Caribbean, making this module particularly relevant for doctors, nurses, rehabilitation professionals and other healthcare workers involved in acute and long-term patient care.
Students develop an understanding of multiple sclerosis and other neuroinflammatory conditions, including their presentation, classification, investigation, treatment, long-term management and rehabilitation. The module emphasises critical evaluation of evidence and translating knowledge into clinical practice. It can help healthcare professionals build a stronger framework for managing patients with complex neurological disorders requiring ongoing multidisciplinary care.
This module examines disorders affecting the peripheral nervous system, including Guillain-Barré syndrome, mononeuritis multiplex, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, entrapment neuropathies, chronic neuropathies and genetic neuronopathies.
